Introduction:

Windows indexing service is a service in the Windows 7 that allows searching on PCs and corporate computer networks. It is an operating system level service that maintains an index of most of the files on a computer and updates them without user intervention. Windows gives you the option of disabling search indexing. This will give your system a performance boost by freeing up the resources normally used for indexing your files.

If you are looking for a search similar to the one in Windows XP, you will be disappointed. Windows 7 uses a much more ‘annoying’ for the lack of a better word search. It works well for finding photos and music, but it’s a pain to try to find anything else. However, there is excellent free software out called Locate32, it’s completely free and works much lightning fast. Far above anything windows indexing can accomplish. Not to mention, it has very advanced customization options for power users. You can find this utility at:
